GILs (Gas-insulated Transmission Lines) are a safe and flexible alternative to over-head lines. They often take up less space while providing the same power transmission. GILs can be considered for a wide range of applications since they have minimal effects on the surrounding environment and their low electromagnetic radiation means that they can be placed in close proximity to, or even within, buildings. They are suitable for connecting power plants to the grid or as a space-saving means of connecting high-powered industrial equipment to the public grid.
